Happy Midsummer

Midsummer is one of the most important and widely celebrated traditions in Sweden. It takes place in June, around the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, when daylight stretches late into the night and nature is at its most vibrant.

The celebration has ancient roots and people believed that Midsummer night held magical powers: Plants were thought to have healing qualities, and rituals could bring love, health, and good fortune.

Today, Midsummer is mainly about spending time with family and friends, often in the countryside. The central part of the celebration is flower crowns and the Maypole decorated with leaves and flowers, around which people gather to dance and sing traditional songs.

“Små grodorna” (Small frogs song) might be the only song where fully grown adults proudly hop around pretending to have no ears and no tails and somehow, it’s completely normal once a year – It’s basically Sweden’s most socially accepted way of acting like a frog in public!

We wish you all a Happy Midsummer!
